Alice Walton

Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton is going to have a very happy holiday season. After being arrested for a DWI back in 2011, Walton’s arrest has been expunged after a hearing yesterday, December 2, 2013 in Parker County, Texas.

Alice Walton is the heiress to the Wal-Mart fortune. Her father, Sam Walton, founded Wal-Mart, giving Walton a net worth of around $33.5 billion. According to Forbes, she is the eighth wealthiest person in the United States. So, of course, she was able to afford to get her DUI expunged!

Expungement, my lovely lush crushes, can be a very good thing. It is the process of erasing your DUI arrest from your record as if nothing ever happened… for the most part.

When Walton was arrested back in October of 2011, the arresting officer asked her to perform a field sobriety test. However, Walton claimed she was unable to due to an injury. Needless to say, she ended up getting arrested.

However, prosecutors never placed formal charges against Walton. Furthermore, the arresting officer was suspended for misconduct so he couldn’t even testify against Walton.

Time had passed and in October of this year, the two-year Texas statute of limitations had expired. Because no one ever prosecuted Walton within the mandatory two-year time frame, prosecutors could no longer pursue any charges against her.

“No information or indictment was ever filed by the state and the statute of limitations for this offense expired on October 7, 2013,” stated Walton’s attorney, Mac Smith.

Even though Walton is cleared of these charges, it doesn’t mean she had an otherwise clean record. In 1998, she was convicted of drunk driving in Springdale, Arkansas after getting into a single-vehicle accident.
