It’s not only the NFL players that face penalties if they get arrested for a DUI. Many employees who work for or own football teams also face suspension or termination. For example, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay recently completed a suspension after he was arrested for a DUI in Carmel, Indiana.

The latest football-affiliated person to be arrested for a DUI is Isaiah Harris. Harris, who served as the director of player development for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was arrested for a DUI on Thursday, October 16, 2014.

Harris allegedly rear-ended a woman at a Taco Bell drive-thru before police arrived at the scene. It may sound outrageous to be arrested for a DUI at a drive-thru, but it’s actually quite common. Many people get arrested for drunk driving at fast food drive-thrus every year.

Harris refused to take a blood-alcohol concentration test and was eventually taken to the station shortly after 2 am. He was later released on a $500 bond at around 11 am.

As director of player development. Harris was responsible for “the personal and professional growth of football players through guidance and support.”

Harris previously held this position for the Bears under Lovie Smith.

However, earlier today, Harris was terminated from his position. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht issued the following statement:

“Every member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is held to a high standard. This type of incident, particularly for someone whose primary responsibilities are to mentor and develop our players off the field, cannot be tolerated. Due to the nature of his position and the expectations placed on our staff, we made the organizational decision to part ways with Isaiah.”
