Buddy Valastro, otherwise known as Cake Boss, was arrested for a DWI in New York City early Thursday morning.
Valastro is the owner of Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey where he and his baking comrades and family are featured on TLC’s ‘Cake Boss’. The team at Carlo’s Bakery are known for creating elaborate confections for a wide clientele.
At around 1 am on November 13, Valastro was spotted by NY police swerving in his 2014 yellow Corvette. He was driving erratically down 10th Avenue near the Hudson Yards in Manhattan.
Police pulled him over where they noticed Valastro looking flushed, smelling like booze and sporting bloodshot eyes. They gave him a sobriety test, which Valastro failed.
Valastro is due to be arraigned later in the afternoon. Attorneys, as well as a representative from Carlo’s, declined to comment.
In addition to the Hoboken location, Valastro owns bakeries elsewhere in New Jersey, as well as Manhattan, Queens, and Las Vegas.
CBS New York managed to get a few statements from customers outside of Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken.
“I think that if I were a parent I would wonder whether I should bring my kid into a place where somebody was charged with DUI,” one man stated.
A tourist from Ohio added, “I think he’s a good dad and he runs a good business and he made a mistake.”
If found guilty of a DWI, Valastro could face expensive fines, a driver’s license suspension and mandatory treatment for alcohol abuse. He may also be required to install an ignition interlock device.
