Dallas Mavericks’ forward Devin Ebanks will have to face a suspension from 2 games for his no contest plea to his November 2012 DUI charges.

When Ebanks was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, he was arrested for a DUI early in the morning of November 9, 2012. He was booked an hour later. He was released from jail later in the day on a $5,000 bail.

According to Ebanks’ Twitter account, he may have been celebrating too hard at a woman’s birthday party that day. He was tweeted earlier in the day that he was headed to the Roxbury night club in Hollywood to celebrate a woman’s birthday.

Ebanks faced misdemeanor charges. However, according to the LA Times, this isn’t Ebanks’ first run in with the law.

“It was Ebanks’ second incident with law enforcement in a little more than a year. Prosecutors declined to file charges against him last December after a woman alleged Ebanks sexually assaulted her three months earlier.”

Ebanks will be missing the first two games of the regular season. He signed with the Mavericks in mid-September. He didn’t play in the pre-season game against the New Orleans Pelicans. However, he did play last Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies where he managed to score 6 points, 2 rebounds and a block.

The consequences for a DUI in Los Angeles include potential jail time, probation, loss of driver’s license and the possible installation of an ignition interlock. However, since he’s currently in Dallas, his license suspension and other punishments have a possibility of being transferred over to Texas.
