Erin Henderson, the former linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings, recently wrote to TMZ to express that he is actually grateful for his two recent DUI arrests saying they led him on the path to recovery.
Henderson, 27, checked into rehab following his arrests in January of 2014.
Though he is still looking for a new team, it looks like the star athlete is getting the help he needs.
Henderson wrote that his two DUI arrests were a wake-up call for him to get his life together.
“There would be times where I would come to practice hung over,” Henderson told ‘USA Today’’s Tom Pelissero. “Never just fresh off of drinking coming into practice. But I might have had a rough night the night before, and I’d be in front of the huddle calling plays. And everybody would know that I had been out drinking the night before.”
Obviously, that wasn’t the smartest decision Henderson could’ve made at the time.
“Of course, that affects the ability to go out there and perform and be the best you can be. But I’d been doing it for so long and it’s something that I had gotten used to.”
The Vikings ended up booting Henderson. However, Henderson believes this is a blessing in disguise. However, he is still looking to play again as long as those drafting him take a leap of faith.
“For me, it’s nothing different than when I came out here to the Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Once I get on to a team and get on to a roster, I trust myself and believe myself. It’s just a matter of somebody going out on a limb and trusting me.”
