Ata Maivia-Johnson and Lina Fanene, the mother and cousin of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, were involved in a very serious car accident involving a drunk driver last week.

The Rock’s mother and cousin were driving home from the Usos Foundation Banquet in Clermont, Florida. This is a charity event that the family organizes every year.

Apparently, a drunk driver crashed head on into the 2012 white Escalade that Ata Maivia-Johnson was driving. The vehicle ended up getting totaled as did the vehicle belonging to the drunk driver.

The Rock’s mother and cousin did sustain injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. No details were released regarding Johnson’s mother. She did have to stay in the hospital for three nights. However, Johnson did indicate on Twitter that his mother was recuperating.

The drunk driver who caused the crash did sustain some injuries and had to be hospitalized. Apparently, the driver ran through two red lights before hitting the vehicle. She has officially been charged with a DUI.

The Rock did take to social media to express his feelings about the incident. He tweeted, “My mom and cousin were hit head on by a drunk driver. They lived. This was 100% preventable. #ChoicesMatter.”

Johnson also shared his feelings about the incident on Instagram, writing “First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days. Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them. #BearHugsandGratitude #100PercentPreventable #ChoicesMatter.”

Lina Fanene, the Rock’s cousin who works at WWE NXT, wrote that she is “very grateful to be alive”. She also stated, “Not sure why the very intoxicated woman decided to drive her car, head first, into our car … but I do know that we are extremely lucky to be alive and that everything we have is fixable. It’s a bump in the road, but we will get past it and be stronger than before!”
