The Brooklyn Nets Coach pleaded guilty today to a DWI in exchange for speaking to high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Last year Kidd was arrested for a DWI after he crashed his SUV into a utility pole in the Hamptons. Apparently, Kidd got a little toasted at a charity event beforehand.

Today, he pleaded guilty.  He can have his conviction reduced to a driving while ability impaired (DWAI) violation, as long as he fulfills his community service. Kidd’s community service consists of talking to high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving. Hey, that beats picking up trash!

Suffolk DA Thomas Spota stated:

“He’s a role model to kids and other people. And he’s going to have to have the opportunity to talk to them about the foolish mistake that he made and the fact that he took responsibility for his actions.”

Let’s hope some of the students present during Kidd’s talks are former child stars. They really need to be taught the dangers of drunk driving…
