Daniel Johns, the former frontman for the Australian band Silverchair, has pleaded guilty to drunk driving in Newcastle.

Johns, the former husband of Natalie Imbruglia, was arrested for a DUI on October 28th, 2014. Johns was behind the wheel of his black Jaguar in Merewether, Australia when a police officer stopped him for a random breathalyzer test. Johns’ blood-alcohol concentration turned out to be 0.126 percent, which is 2.5 times the legal limit in Australia.

According to official documents delineating Johns’ arrest, “In the opinion of the police, the accused was moderately affected by intoxicating liquor when he was stopped by police. His eyes were watery, bloodshot and he smelt heavily of intoxicating liquor.”

Johns ended up getting his driver’s license suspended and he will also have to attend a Traffic Offenders Program. His official sentencing will take place on February 26.

Johns did briefly speak to reporters outside of the courthouse, apologizing for his actions.

Johns first arrived to the music scene in 1994 after his band Silverchair signed a three-album deal with Sony Music. Silverchair went on to release the albums ‘Frogstomp’, ‘Freak Show’, ‘Neon Ballroom’, and ‘Diorama’.

Johns went on to do a couple of side projects with The Dissociatives and Luke Steele. In 2011, Silverchair announced that they were going into “indefinite hibernation”.

Johns continues to write and record music and was ranked by ‘Rolling Stone’ as one of the 25 Most Under-rated Guitarists. He was briefly married to actress, singer and model Natalie Imbruglia from 2003 until their divorce in 2008.
