A promising football star from the University of Hawaii has definitely encountered a bit of a hitch. Joey Iosefa, the running back for the Rainbow Warriors, was arrested for a DUI in Honolulu over the weekend.

Early in the morning of Sunday, October 12, the 23-year-old senior was stopped by the cops at the intersection of Pohukaina Street and South Street. He was arrested for drunk driving and taken to the Honolulu Police Department’s main police station. the college football star was later released on $500 bail. He is due to appear in District Court on November 11.

The news of Iosefa’s DUI arrest came just a day after the Rainbow Warriors beat Wyoming at the Mountain West Conference.

Iosefa certainly showed a promising career and was considered to be a top NFL draft pick. However, Iosefa has been sitting out the past few weeks because of a fractured foot that occurred during a game against Oregon State. There was a chance he could return to playing quite soon, but that may be delayed due to his DUI arrest.

Based on the penalties of past team members getting arrested for drunken driving, Iosefa is expected to be suspended from 3 games. In 2012, punter Alex Dunnachie and defensive end Alema Tachibana were both arrested and ended up getting suspended from the team’s offseason conditioning program. The school plans to officially announce Iosefa’s disciplinary action Tuesday morning when head coach Norm Chow returns to Hawaii from Los Angeles.

Iosefa is a fifth-year senior at the University of Hawaii. Despite disciplinary action by the Rainbow Warriors, he is still allowed to remain on scholarship and attend class.
