Florida State Representative Dane Eagle held a news conference today in Cape Coral discussing his most recent DUI arrest. Eagle was arrested for a DUI on April 22, 2014 in Tallahassee. Eagle admitted that he did drive recklessly on the 22nd and should’ve have agreed to take a breath test. However, Eagle assured his constituents that he did not drive drunk.

“I don’t believe I am guilty of the charge I was arrested for,” Eagle stated.

Eagle did admit to spending the day with friends and family and that he did imbibe some beer. However, he said he drank the beers much earlier in the day and by the time he was behind the wheel he was sober.

At around 2 am, Eagle was stopped for a DUI after coming out of a Taco Bell drive-thru.

“There are two noteworthy points to address,” Eagle stated in his press conference. “First I should have never been out in the early morning hours, driving on very little sleep and trying to eat the food I just purchased at the same time. That kind of distracted driving is dangerous and I thank god no one was hurt. Second, the officer had every right to pull me over because of my driving. While I dispute his conclusions, I do not dispute that I was driving recklessly and had poor judgment refusing the breath test.”

Eagle also stated that he does not have an alcohol problem and asked for forgiveness from his constituents.

“I should have never put myself in this situation and I regret not taking the breath test because it would have cleared up this whole matter. I’m not asking you to look past the mistake I made but asking you to understand that I will use this to learn and to grow. I will make this up to you.”
