The country’s two soccer fans will probably be disappointed to hear about this one. Sebastian Velasquez, the midfielder for Real Salt Lake, was arrested for a DUI on May 19, 2014.

Velasquez was arrested shortly after 5 am. Salt Lake County officers pulled over the smashed-lete after they spotted him driving 84 mph on Interstate 15 near 2700 South, which is a 65 mph zone.

When police approached the vehicle, Velasquez was clearly under the influence. Officers could smell alcohol on his breath. Furthermore, Velasquez failed a field sobriety test.

On May 27, the celeb athlete was charged with a DUI and speeding. His arraignment was scheduled for today, June 2, 2014. However, Velasquez didn’t make an appearance. His attorney appeared for him and issued a not guilty plea.

Velasquez has been taking a leave of absence from Real Salt Lake for family issues. However, Real Salt Lake general manager, Garth Lagerwey, believes the team will be reunited with the midfielder soon.

“Under league policy, there’s protocol to be followed under these situations under the joint substance abuse and behavior health program. We have followed the initial steps and we anticipate that Sebastian will rejoin the team in full training by the end of [this] week,” Lagerwey stated.

While the NFL has recently been discussing harsher penalties if players get arrested for a DUI, it’s unclear if the soccer league will do the same. If Velasquez is convicted of a DUI, he could be facing potential jail time, mandatory treatment, DUI classes and the dreaded community service.
