The sideline reporter for the Carolina Hurricanes is certainly in some hot water. And for someone who works by the ice, hot water is definitely not something she wants to be in.

Chantel McCabe, the 25-year-old host of the Hurricanes pregame show on FOX Sports Carolinas, was arrested on Saturday, October 4 for driving while intoxicated in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was stopped on the 1600 block of Glenwood Avenue.

In addition to the legal penalties she will likely have to face, the Hurricanes have suspended her from reporting duties for the rest of the month of October.

Don Waddell, the President of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, issued a brief statement on Tuesday.

“In light of what happened this past weekend, we think it is best that Ms. McCabe take some time away from the team,” he stated.

The Hurricanes do not have a replacement for McCabe during her leave of absence. She is expected to return to work on October 31.

McCabe also works for the NHL Network and NHL.com. She previously worked as a news reporter for WGGB-TV in Springfield, Massachusetts.

McCabe could be facing some pretty serious consequences if she is arrested for a North Carolina DWI. North Carolina has notoriously strict DWI laws. McCabe may have to pay some expensive fines as well as have her driver’s license suspended. She may have to seek help for alcohol abuse and face other consequences. Additionally, she may be required to install an ignition interlock. An ignition interlock is a device a DWI offender plugs into their vehicle that can prevent the car from starting if it detects alcohol on the driver’s breath.
